Pocahontas Collab

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Collaborating with Lee Scott. I haven’t done fanart work in forever. I’m drawing Pocahontas, minus her hair, and Flit while he’s doing the background work, leaves and her hair. Though this image is relatively cropped, there’s actually no hair in the piece yet - I just plopped some in so she wasn’t bald for the post.

Lee and I have collaborated before in February of ‘09 with this piece:

Lee and I worked on the sketch, but then he had to leave for personal reasons. I had this silly idea that I would stop myself from completing it without him, but unfortunately barged through it. Lee graciously gave the piece over to me and I appreciated it, but would really like to do a real collaboration this time.

Another one of my post and run moments. Got class in about an hour and a half and I need to get my car unburied from it’s ice and snow deathtrap.

One of the 7 projects we’ve done in 2D.

To be honest, while I’m not a big fan of cutting and pasting black and white construction paper - and we’ve been doing that ALL SEMESTER - I have some good work in 2D I’d like to show. Unfortunately, he collected all of the pieces right after their completion and hasn’t returned them yet.

3D project.

I posted this image on my Facebook and Twitter and most of you got it right - my 3D project was to make a set of ram horns. Well, really, it was to “redefine the volume of the head,” but horns were my instinctive target. Here’s some images of their completion:

That morning, right after they were finished.

One of the sides.

How I presented them in class.

And no, while black hair is kind of growing on me, I did not dye my hair for this. This is actually a super cheap wig. I’ll forever be my natural blonde hair color.

That’s all for today. Enjoy!

Riley Character Designs

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

This post has been significantly edited! I have removed a number of pictures that I will be including in my book that reviews how I illustrated Riley the Dragon Tamer. Look for it in 2011!

Here are some more character designs! I kept them all facing one direction to help look at their silhouettes better.

Riley

I would like to point out that this is a beautifully written story that older children (8-10) are bound to enjoy. I can’t wait to share it with you when it comes out!

Well, I’m off to sleep and then out to battle the ice and snow that fell. Seems a half an inch of ice under three inches of snow (or more) isn’t enough for them to cancel classes at Park.

Stay safe!
