UStream Schedule!

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Next week, I’ll be drawing live over at ustream.tv. For those of you that don’t know what it is, UStream is a website where you can watch videos from the comfort of your computer. The difference between it and YouTube is that it’s live! Next week, I’ll not only be working on commissions live but also given four different tutorials. It should be a lot of fun. And, if you join UStream prior to the sessions (it’s free and spam-free), you’ll be able to chat with me as I work!

If you have any specific questions about my work, art in general, or ustream, don’t hesitate to ask! Also, if you have any other topics that you would like me to cover, please let me know.

All times are listed CST (-6). Let me know if you can’t figure out what time the showings are for your area and I can help. The url to my channel is attached below. Hope to see you there!

Spring Break To Do List

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Look for Ustream live work from me next week. If you’re not a friend of mine on facebook or twitter, you should run over there and do that now. It’s a great way to keep updated on my work, especially when I’m streaming live with commissions. I post up links to my live videos as they’re happening.

Two blogs in a row! I’m on a roll. If you’d like to see the art for today and skip my ramblings, scroll to the bottom of this entry.

Spring break is approaching quickly; in fact, it starts this Friday and lasts until 19th of October. Boy could I use one! I have a ton of things I need to get done. I thought I would take this moment between studying to reflect on my goals for 2009 and plan my spring break.

When looking at my 2009 goals posted to the left, I realize I really need to rework the list. There are a few goals I know I won’t accomplish this year and a few goals for which I no longer have a desire. For example, while I still want to finish Behind the Mask, I obviously can’t complete 10 oil paintings in two months accurately. That may be a focus of a painting class if I can snag one next year. Also, before I work on A World Once Was, I’d like to get more webcomic experience. I’m being commissioned for a monthly comic now, and have a small comic of my own I’d like to produce called Marker Slave. That should help me significantly before I roll with AWOW.

Redoing Daughter Nature and Silence are no longer of importance to me. I don’t think I could recapture the essence of each piece and surely I’ll have some better ideas in the future.

Expect a new 2009 goal sheet posted up soon.

So taking my 2009 goal sheet into consideration, I think I’m looking forward to finishing the following during my break:

[+] Commissions for several people ranging from finishing an oil landscape to a character design commission to parts of the webcomic I mentioned above.
[+] Several works I’d like to finish for myself, including character sheets for my AWOW characters, at least 5 webcomics for Marker Slave and some still life studies. I’d also like to do some pin ups of girls based on either the days of the week or the Dark Zodiac. Or maybe I’ll tackle both. Finally, I’d like to do at least one full image of my characters to replace the older one.
[+] I’d like to do a bit more revamping on BrushtoCanvas. Maybe bring a gallery of sampler images on the front, add my twitter and such. I’d also like to do a mailing list. What do you guys think about linking BrushtoCanvas and Paper-Roses as one site?
[+] Finally, I’d like to get ahead in my classes so I have time to continue my art outside of breaks.

I’m looking at Ustream-ing most of my work next week. My new headset should make it where you can actually hear me, but it means less music. I’m hoping that I’ll attract a crowd enough that I won’t have to use music too much. That means I need questions! Questions about artwork in general or my own work would be fantastic. Feel free to comment here or sent me an e-mail at artist@brushtocanvas.net.

Well that’s it for me. Enjoy the commission below with some links to it’s process!

After Chicago, but Still Busy!

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Ever since my husband and I knew we would be going to Chicago at the end of September, I’ve always viewed September 30th as the end of the chaos. How wrong I was! This week has been absolutely crazy, and next week will be even more so.

Friday and Saturday were my first two days at le ol’ WOF since the start of Halloweekends. Unfortunately, this fall has gotten very cold very fast. We’ve been facing a terribly low turnout just from the weather. Such a shame; the haunt is my favorite part of the season.

Tomorrow is my second and most likely final day doing caricatures for DCI’s Oktoberfest. I was chatting with another artist there that runs a gallery and he mentioned that he hadn’t seen the event this empty since he started a few years ago. Hopefully tomorrow is a better turn out for them! I’d like to be busting my back all evening and get a chance to come back Tuesday night. The people seem like a lot of fun; there just has to be more of them!

It seems like the economy is really hurting everyone. I’ve been actively watching it at Worlds, but DCI kind of confirmed my fears. I’m hoping that the recession turns around soon! I have to draw to put food in my stomach.

On a lighter note, they have these beer mug shaped balloons and I really want one. They’re amazing.

During my week in Chicago, Manheim Auto Auctions used a few commissioned pieces from me as prizes for their carnival-themed auction. Here are some pieces I sent to them:

Also, because I talked about the trip in anticipation so much, here are some photos from my last day in Chicago:

My best friend Charli and I. She kept us in Chicago for a week.

Me on the beach. I got to stick my feet in Michigan Lake!

Also, as a quick update, here’s a better image of the MJ tribute piece I did a couple weeks ago:

Take care everyone!
