Quick Art Dump

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

I’m running behind for work and I’m pretty sick - just a minor cold, but it’s zapping the life from me. I thought I’d drop some caricatures I’d done recently plus some character designs for a web comic I’ll be starting soon. Enjoy!

This one is actually my husband, Aaron.

Long time no post!

Woo, I haven’t posted for two weeks! An incredible feat considering my post history. Things have been very very busy and there are a lot of changes in the air.

The first and most notable change is that I am resigning from my graphic design position at Dave Littleton Ford. I loved the time I spent there, but I feel like I need to give my freelancing and caricature career more focus. Not to mention that I’m starting school again in the fall and most likely transferring next summer to Chicago for three months. My last two days there will be tomorrow and next Wednesday where I will be training my good friend and fellow Kamaner Nathan to fill my shoes. I’m glad that I could at least leave them with a replacement.

Speaking of Chicago, my best friend Charli was in town the past couple of weeks. We spent her first full day in town together and the next week, she spent a night with me. She insisted I do a decent caricature of her while here, so I whipped up this while chatting with her at my kitchen table.

I gave her a super old damaged mat to take it home in so it wouldn’t get damaged itself. Aaron and I plan on heading up to Chicago September 21st through 27th. I’m very very excited.

July 4th came and went at the WOF. For some reason, every year, Worlds of Fun is a very scary place to be on Independence Day. The security was tight this year, thank goodness, and only a few fights broke out. However, as usual, business was slow. This year however was the first year I’ve been able to see our fantastic fireworks show. Since I had a coworker with me, I was able to step out on the midway past the trees and grab some pictures.

This past week also marked our regional manager (and my old boss’s wife!) coming into town. She implemented a few new changes to sales and prices that had me both cheering and moping. All of our prices were upped so that we could implement a sale every day minus Saturday. The sale is a fantastic idea, but Sunday, the first day we used it, I worked like a dog for little to nothing. I came home feeling like I’d just finished a busy Saturday with maybe steady Friday pay. It was kind of frustrating.

Monday was far, far better. I did express concerns to Mike that I couldn’t quite get out in between drawings: that I didn’t want to work a Saturday every day for little to nothing. However, by the end of Monday, I found my hourly far higher than I had expected. If this sale continues to do that for us, it might be worth while.

However, I’m frightened for Saturday. How will customers accept our new higher prices? Will Sunday now be the day to work or will we have to extend the sale to every day? We’ll just have to see how it goes.

Currently, because of his recent death, we’ve been holding a Michael Jackson contest at the caricature stands. Out of boredom this past week, I did a drawing of the guy at every stage of his life.

For giggles, I posted one at each easel of the stand one day so that, when guests walked by, they would either progress or regress in his life.

Not only did this tactic get the stand a lot of attention and sales, but I sold the top two for the price of a colored body. I think that the bottom left could probably sell, but the Wacko Jacko on the bottom right will probably never sell. Oh well; I think it’s hilarious.

Also note that my Harry Potter also took flight a couple weeks back to an ecstatic HP fan.

We also had a glorious sunset that same day.

Now for some random finishing posts.

Finished lineart commission.

Key to the Apocalypse; Oriella Aurelia WIP.

And a new profile picture. This might perhaps be a promo for a new project too!

Well, this lengthy post is it for a bit folks. Check back often. I’ll try to get more pictures of my caricature work soon!
